The study was conducted by specialists from the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science and Rikstotoklinikken Bjerke.
Read the published studyThe study compared ImproWin® powder with a placebo in trotters with ulcers in the non-glandular part of the stomach. The horses were examined by gastroscopy.
At the end of the study, 78% of the ImproWin group and 54.8% of the placebo group had an ulcer score at least one grade lower (p = 0.04). This was an improvement in score, not necessarily complete healing.
Both groups improved after three weeks, with no statistically significant difference at that point. Treatment changes and assumptions in the final analysis limit interpretation. The study examined powder, not pellets or glandular ulcers (EGGD).
Stig Larsen at the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science designed the study and performed the statistical analyses. Ingunn R. Hellings at Rikstotoklinikken Bjerke carried out the gastroscopies. Both were authors of the publication.
The study was randomised and double-blind. Of 78 horses enrolled, 67 were included in the analysis. Feeding and management were not standardised. The authors noted that the classification at the end of the study could favour the ImproWin group.
Hellings and Larsen published the study in Acta Veterinaria Scandinavica in 2014. Vitality Innovation AS was among the funding sources and paid the publication fee.
Laboratory tests on bacterial growth have also been carried out. Read the laboratory report (PDF, Norwegian).
Base the amount on your horse’s body weight. The amounts below are for daily use.

For a 400 kg horse: 1 level scoop (20 g) daily. For a 500 kg horse: 1 heaped scoop (25 g) daily. Mix the powder thoroughly into soaked feed or mash.
The 1.2 kg tub lasts 60 days at 20 g daily or 48 days at 25 g daily. Do not give the dry powder directly into the mouth.

For a 400 kg horse: 2 scoops (40 g) daily. Mix the pellets into your horse’s usual feed.
The daily amount is the same for both pack sizes. At 40 g daily, 1 kg lasts 25 days and 2 kg lasts 50 days.
Team Diversity describes its experiences with ImproWin and the horse Luntint. Personal experiences offer a different perspective from a controlled study.
The video and product label discuss uses beyond those examined in the study. The study concerns powder and ulcer scores in the non-glandular part of the stomach; it does not substantiate all the effects mentioned here.
